Rough-Sawn Hardwood Lumber
Locally Milled Urban Trees
Bole To Board Sawmill produces rough-sawn hardwood lumber from locally salvaged urban trees from Northeast Wisconsin. Each board is milled from trees removed due to storm damage, disease, age, or development.
Inventory changes regularly based on available logs and species.

What Is Rough-Sawn Lumber?
Rough-sawn lumber is cut to a rough dimension, directly from the log. This allows for material to be removed after the drying process when straight and flat boards are needed for your project. They are not straight line ripped, planed or surfaced.
Rough-sawn lumber gives woodworkers the most options to surface and finish the material to their exact specifications, or leave the natural saw marks for "rustic" projects.

Available Species
Species vary depending on recently salvaged trees. Common urban hardwoods may include:
-
Oak
-
Ash
-
Elm
-
Maple
-
Walnut
-
And other locally available species
Availability is limited to current inventory.

Dimensions & Cuts
Thicknesses are measured in "quarters". This practice dates back to the early days of steam circular sawmills because the adjustments were in increments of 1/4". 8/4 is a 2" thickness, for example.
4/4, 5/4, 6/4, and 8/4 are the common thicknesses stocked.
Boards widths vary as they are left as wide as the log allowed, giving woodworkers the most options for their projects.
